Chandragupta Maurya was born in Magadh (Mainly Bihar) in 340 B.C. His mother name was Mura. Not much is known about his father.

Many historians believed that his father was a leader of a small warrior group, which later on faced suppression from Dhananand, The King of the Magadh region. In this suppression his father died and his mother decided to settle somewhere else by hiding their identities.

Chandragupta was raised by his mother and maternal uncle. One day the soldiers of Dhananand arrested his maternal uncle due to loan deficit. Chandragupta decided to sold himself to a hunter for his uncle's freedom.

Chanakya (Kautilya) was the teacher of Chandragupta Maurya. He was a great scholar and now also he is considered as one of the greatest minds of the universe. Chanakya is considered as maker of economics. He shaped and helped Chandragupta in becoming king of Magadh.

The journey of this student and teacher for the throne started when Chanakya went to Dhananand to ask him to reunite India as this was the only way to defend themselves from Alexandra The Great. He tried to convience him by saying that Magadh was the only state which could reunite India as it was the biggest state of India then but Dhananand insulted him and ordered his soldiers to threw him out of his palace.

Chanakya was thrown out of the Palace. Chanakya felt disgusted and took pledge that he will never tie his braid until he threw Dhananand from the throne of Magadh.

He began searching for a person who could throw out Dhananand from the Magadh's throne. In his search he found Chandragupta. He saw fearlessness and eagerness to do something in Chandragupta. He freed Chandragupta from the hunter and took Chandragupta with him. He told Chandragupta's mother about his future plan related to Chandragupta and asked for the consent from his mother. His mother agreed. Till then he was known as Chandragupta but in the loving memory of his mother he later come to known as Chandragupta maurya.

Chanakya took Chandragupta to Takshshilla to train him. There he learnt many arts.

In the course of time the Teacher and student duo did several things against Dhananand among which the loot of the treasury of Dhananand was the biggest one. Dhananand noticed the actions of Chanakya and Chandragupta and decided to teach them a lesson. He tried several things to kill them but he failed many times. So in the end he killed Chandragupta's mother to teach him a lesson.

Chandragupta became furious after his mother's death and decided to take revenge from Dhananand. He tried to kill Dhananand but in the proceedings he killed his duplicate. Dhananand had 7 duplicates for his safety.

Dhananand captured Chandragupta but somehow he managed to escape.

Meanwhile Alexandra arrived in India. The king of Takshshilla, Aambhi was the first one to join hands with Alexandra. He is considered as the first traitor in the history of India. Alexandra defeated Porus and other states.

Before reaching Magadh, his army lost interest and an epidemic spread in Alexandra's army. Alexandra decided to go back to his kingdom Mecedonia.

Many historians believed that Chanakya and Chandragupta were behind this epidemic.

After the departure of Alexandra from India, Chanakya and Chandragupta began consolidating their situation. They built their army and attacked Dhananand several times but they were defeated everi single time.

Chandragupta and Chanakya lost hope that they could win. One day they realized that Magadh  was a big state to be defeated so they decided to defeat other small states present in the periphery of Magadh. This will provide them better opportunity of winning.

Chandragupta defeated Aambhi first and went on winning other states.

In the last he attacked Magadh from all side and ultimately defeated Dhananand and got the crown of Magadh's king.

    1. In any historical or biographical book you will only find the name of durdhara rather than nandani (which was created for a serial). Helena was the daughter of nicator who was married to chandragupta due to a peace treaty signed between them
