Sunil Chhetri who is trending now a days for his impassioned plea to his countrymen for the support of India Football team has got an overwhelming response but yet many of us are unaware about his life and his achievements, so here in this post I am sharing all the information regarding Sunil Chhetri.


Sunil Chhetri is the Captain of Indian football team and is playing for his country since 2002, when he first played  for the Mohun Bagan club.

He was born on 3rd August 1984 in Secundrabad (Telangana). His father is K.B. Chhatri, an officer in the Electronics and Mechanical Engineering Corps of the Indian Army. His mother name is Sushila Chhetri.

His father used to play football for the army team and his mother along with her twin sister played football for the Nepal women's national team.

He is 5 ft 7 inches tall and weighs 62 kg. His jersey number for India is 11.

His mentor name is Subroto Bhattacharya.

He is a striker in the football team.

He has done his schooling from Bahai School, Gangtok, Sikkim and college from Ashutosh college Kolkata.

His favourite footballers are Lionel Messi and David Villa. He is a fan of Shah Rukh Khan.

He is married to Sonam Bhattacharya.

Records

1. Sunil chhetri signed for the JCT football club in the Santosh trophy and scored 2 hat tricks for Delhi against Orissa and Railways.

2. Chhetri scored 11 goals for JCT during the 2006-07 season and the club finished in second place, behind Dempo

3. In the very first season of Hero I-League 2007, Chhetri scored seven goals as JCT finished the season in third place. 

4. In December 2007, Chhetri carried off the AIFF Player of the Year award for 2007 for his excellent performances for his club and country. Even later he has been given AIFF player of the year award in 2011, 2013 and 2014.

5. In 2009, he won the FPAI Indian Player of the Year award.

6. In 2011, he was named 'The Player of the Tournament' in SAFF Championship for scoring 13 goals.

7. In the 2013-14 season, Chhetri scored 14 goals and 7 assist in 23 appearances in the season, Chhetri led Bengaluru FC to their first ever I-League title in its debut season

8. Chhatri has been top Scorer for india Scoring 61 goals in 100 appearances.
